5 STAR IRONS WITH 2 STAR HYBRIDS IN THE SET….. BE WARNED…., June 24, 2014

BUY THE IRON SET OF BAFFLER XL INSTEAD OF THE COMBO, AND THEN ORDER CALLAWAY OR ADAMS HYBRIDS AS YOU NEED THEM. THAT WILL GET YOU THE 5 AND 6 IRON WHICH ARE GREAT CLUBS. I’M A SENIOR WITH 85-88 MPH SWING, AND I GET 160 OUT OF THE 5 IRON. THE COMBO SET HYBRIDS ARE JUNK.

HOWEVER, THE BAFFLER XL FAIRWAY WOODS ARE REALLY GOOD. SHOCKINGLY GOOD.

THE IRONS WILL BE ON THE HOT LIST FOR A YEAR OR MORE. YOU WILL SEE THE HYBRIDS ON EBAY AS THOSE WHO BUY THE COMBO SET DUMP THE HYBRIDS FOR BETTER CLUBS.

MY HYBRIDS ON THE COMBO SET CAME IN A HALF INCH SHORT PER CLUB WITH DISTANCE LOSS AND LIGHT SWING-WEIGHT OVER PREVIOUS MODELS OF COBRA CLUBS. IF YOU CALL COBRA, THEY WON’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. THEY’LL JUST THANK YOU FOR CALLING.

I AM A COBRA NUT. I HAVE BOUGHT AND PLAYED NEARLY EVERY MODEL OF COBRA SINCE THE OLD KING COBRA. I HAVE ALL THE 2010 COBRA CLUBS, AND MOST OF THE 2013 MODELS.

THE BAFFLER XL IRON IS GREAT FOR ANY GOLFER WHO HITS THEIR IRONS TOWARD THE TOE. THE HYBRIDS HAVE A BUILT IN OFFSET THAT WILL HELP SLICERS, BUT FOR ME i DON’T SLICE. i GO STRAIGHT. THESE HYBRIDS HOOK UNCONTROLLABLY FOR ME. I DUMPED THEM FOR A PING HYBRID 4 AND I TRIED THE CALLAWAY X2HOT IN THE 4 AND 5 HYBRID. THE PING IS IN MY BAG AS THE STRAIGHTER OF THE TWO. I LOVE THE BAFFLER XL 5 AND 6 IRONS SO I DON’T NEED THOSE HYBRIDS.

I STARTED THE YEAR WITH MIZUNO JPX-EZ. BUT THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD ON MIS HITS.

I WILL LIKELY BUY A SECOND SET OF BAFFLER XL IRONS, NOT THE COMBO SET, AND PUT THEM BACK FOR A RAINY DAY.

COBRA IRONS ARE JUST TOO GOOD TO PASS UP. I’VE TRIED PING, CALLAWAY BIG BERTHA’S AND DIABLO EDGES, AND THE BAFFLER XL BEATS THEM HANDS DOWN. NOW IF COBRA CAN JUST LOSE THAT OFFSET IN THEIR HYBRIDS THEY’LL BE BETTER OFF.

Excellent Price and product delivery by Nerd. I agree with the prior review as to the length of the hybrids…..3/4″ shorter than my current hybrids of the same lofts. Will test whether distance suffers prior to installing extenders. Will provide an update as to overall performance… Such as the distance between clubs from the blades thru the hybrids, feel, and distance comparisons to my current clubs. Update: These meet expectations as performance enhancing clubs for us non professionals. First, I am way past the youth category and took up golf when I retired. After 6 years I carry a 10 handicap from the white tees…lowest, a 7. It is difficult to experience a bad shot with these clubs, even on off center, heavy, or thin shots. Of course, all center shots reward your effort with good distance, projectory, and on target results. As a previous reviewer mentioned the hybrids are shorter than what is normal standard. Buyer beware: Hybrids spec’s for the combo set is .75 inches shorter than if you buy comparable clubs as individual hybrid clubs. Go to cobra website and look at the two spec’s for combo and individual hybrid to validate. The reasoning is the stand alone club has a different head resulting in a longer shaft and price. Rational for the shorter shaft for the combo set is it goes with the flow of the set. In practice this is not true…..you will will experience a considerable loss in distance. By adding extensions for $7 to !0 to each combo hybrid you can get back the appropriate distance. Therefore, think about how you wish to approach this dilemma.. purchase all blades, add extensions or buy another brand. The good news I continue to hit a baby draw with the slightly hook bias face on the hybrids.” By the way with the regular graphite shaft, there was no problems in producting the swing speed for high launch and expected distance.

Great set for a mid to high handicapper, August 8, 2014

After lots of research on max game improvement irons, and after playing a round with a demo set, I bought the Cobra Baffler combo iron/hybrid set with graphite shafts. The hybrids are super easy to hit, and I like the forgiveness in them. They were actually the major selling point of this set for me. Still getting used to hitting a 5 and 6 hybrid vice a 5 or 6 iron, but distance seems to be better with the hybrids, and I can get them to land softly. Lightweight graphite shafts allows me to “feel” the clubhead during my swing, and it helps with increasing my swing speed. The looks of these clubs are great; the shiny dark blue heads with silver and blue graphite shafts make it a beautiful set. While I am still getting used to hitting these after playing Callaways, I feel I made the right choice with these Cobras. The only drawback I can see is that the faces tend to show wear quicker than my Callaways did, but that’s a minor issue. This is a great set for a mid to high handicapper, and is a good value compared to Callaway, Ping, and TaylorMade clubs.
